Support Full Funding for Arts Education

Final decisions on funding visual and performing arts education in the California budget should be made this week. Please take a moment today to phone or email the legislators below urging full funding for arts and music education in our schools

Real education reform must "Bring back the Arts".

Sample Email:

Dear

  • Please support full funding for arts and music education in the state budget.
  • Bringing the arts back into our schools is a high priority for the California State PTA.
  • Extensive research during the past decade now confirms the arts improve academic and personal success—particularly for our most needy students.
  • This is an issue of equity for the PTA. We believe all children deserve a quality arts education.
  • Sincerely,

    Background:

    On-Going Funding:

The Governor’s May Revise budget contains $166 million in on-going funding for standards aligned arts and music in grades K-12 ($25 per student). The conference committee compromise reduced this to $75 million.

    One Time Funding:

The Governor’s May Revise budget contains $250 million specifically for arts and music equipment and supplies. The conference committee did not retain this as a specific line item but rolled this into a discretionary block grant. While funds may be used for arts and music, there is now no guaranteed funding for arts and music.
