State Budget

I am sure you are aware that yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, August 21, final agreement was reached on the State Budget. It is expected that the Governor will quickly sign the budget package. The agreement does include a promise by the Governor that he would use a series of "blue pencil" vetoes to lower General Fund spending by as much as an additional $700 million. The K-12 budget appears to have not been changed from the version that was originally passed by the Assembly in late July. The budget act is SB 77 and SB 80 is the primary education budget trailer bill.

We will continue to closely monitor and analyze the effects of this budget on children and families. Every effort will be made to keep you informed of any further details relating to the budget agreement as they become known.
