PTA Teachers – Making A Difference Award
The PTA Teachers – Making a Difference Award is designed to showcase and publicize the outstanding dedication and support of teachers for PTA.
To recognize the special contributions of teachers at your school to PTA, California State PTA will select and feature their stories in our publications and on our website.
Nominations can be made throughout the year. Every nominated teacher will receive a letter of appreciation and a certificate. One teacher's name will be drawn monthly for special recognition, a free registration to the next California State PTA Annual Convention to be held May 7-10, 2014 in Los Angeles.
This Month's Featured Teacher
Stephanie Laquin
Nominated by Tulita Elementary PTA
Redondo Beach Council, Thirty-Third District PTA
PTA NOMINATION STATEMENT
"Ms. Laquin truly makes learning fun and easy to understand. Her love for science and social studies can be felt the moment you visit her room. The children adore her because she is caring, fun and respects each child. She allows them to express their ideas and the children feel valued each day. Her caring and compassionate manner is something that cannot be learned in school. She is a true professional that loves her job and cares about every child in her classroom."
Last Month's Featured Teacher
Leslye Alexander
Nominated by Lincoln Middle PTA
Alameda Council, Peralta District PTA
PTA NOMINATION STATEMENT
"Leslye Alexander has been the PTA liaison at Lincoln Middle School for more than 13 years. She brings incredible grace and warmth to her position, as well as deep knowledge of the way the school works, as she has been teaching there for 24 years. As PTA liaison, Leslye has:
- Helped initiate an "art docent" program for sixth graders, in which volunteers first teach students about art relating to the sixth grade history curriculum and then lead them through a hands-on art project;
- Actively takes part in the PTA Ways & Means committee;
- Encouraged the PTA to give more than $23,000 for school programs, including field trips and speakers;
- Maintained a continuous flow of information between the PTA and the faculty.
As our office manager puts it, "Leslye is a great communicator/liaison between staff and PTA. Lincoln PTA and Lincoln staff are one unit because of the great work that Leslye has done as the PTA liaison." In 2000, Leslye won a PTA Honorary Service Award for, in part, her role in launching a 6th grade camping program to help the students bond and learn about the outdoors. We think it's time for her to be recognized again!"
