6/13/2011: PTA joins Governor at press conference calling for a responsible budget

At a press conference in the Capitol on Monday morning, June 13, a California State PTA representative stood up with the Governor and a broad coalition to publicly call on the Legislature to extend taxes and prevent deeper cuts as they negotiate the state budget.

Shayne Silva, a volunteer PTA legislative advocate, joined the Governor, along with representatives of business, school boards, labor and public safety employees. The constitutional deadline for lawmakers to adopt a state budget is June 15, a deadline that is rarely met.

The California State PTA supports a balanced budget approach that invests in education and other crucial children's services. Over the last three years, funding for education in the state has been cut by more than $18 billion.

California State PTA has been calling on its members this budget season to remind their legislators that Cut$ Hurt Kids and that they must work together to reach a responsible budget that protects children and families.
