PRE-CONVENTION CONFERENCES

The California State PTA will offer, at no additional charge, an opportunity for basic PTA training on April 28. These conferences are an opportunity for delegates to get an early start on basic training in topics such as Unit President, Finance, Understanding Public Education and Parliamentary Procedure. Be sure to mark your conference choice on your registration form if you plan to attend one of these conferences; seating is limited.

701 ENACT 2005-NUTRITION AND ACTIVITY LOBBY DAY 2005

Legislation Committee
Join PTA and other allied agencies for hands-on training in skills for influencing local policy makers and those who represent us in Sacramento. After a fast paced hour, attendees can practice their skills in visits to their legislative offices.

Learn and review the basics of PTA policies and procedures. Learn new tips for unit management with an emphasis on goal setting. You will receive PTA timelines, job descriptions and meeting preparation information and resources.

803 ESSENTIAL PARLIAMENTARY SKILLS FOR EVERY OFFICER

Bylaws Committee
Develop an understanding of parliamentary principles and procedures and their practical application. Discover how to use the Bylaws as a tool to run effective meetings, to clarify duties and responsibilities and to guide you smoothly through nominations and election procedures. Learn how the parliamentarian helps the president facilitate meetings.

804 UNDERSTANDING PUBLIC EDUCATION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR CHILDREN

Education Commission
Understanding the “big picture” of public education will enhance your efforts as a local PTA leader and parent/ guardian. Learn how schools are funded and governed; how teachers are credentialed and qualified; the roles of administrators and county offices; what programs require parental involvement; and where legislation fits.
