Teachers Matter - Now More Than Ever

2012 Membership Challenge

Receive one free registration to the 2012 California State PTA Convention in Anaheim May 9-12 – if 100 percent of your full-time credentialed teachers join your PTA before March 1, 2012!

What are the challenge dates? January 1– March 1, 2012

What makes this membership challenge unique? California State PTA honors the support and loyalty of teachers – the "T" in PTA. Each unit that qualifies for the challenge by submitting a qualifying application will receive one free convention registration.

How does my unit qualify? Complete the application, verify your application with the signatures of both your principal and your PTA president, and attach a list of the full-time teachers based at your school. Send through channels to your district PTA. You can download a copy of the application here. Districts should forward applications to the California State PTA office at the address below:

  • 100 percent of the number of full-time teachers at your school site must have joined, with membership dues remitted and received in the California State PTA office no later than close of business March 15, 2012.
  • A list of full-time credentialed teachers must be attached to the completed application. Your principal's signature will verify that all full-time credentialed teachers based at your school site this year have been listed.
  • The signature of the PTA president will verify that per capita for 100 percent of full-time credentialed teachers at your school site has been remitted to California State PTA.
  • Elementary, middle and high schools differ greatly in the number of teachers that are employed. Some elementary schools employ as few as 15 credentialed teachers, while secondary schools may employ as many as 150 credentialed teachers.

How will we determine which teachers to include on the teacher list?

  • This membership challenge is based on the number of full-time home-based credentialed teachers at your school; i.e., teachers who hold a California teaching credential, with a full-time teaching contract. "Home-Based" refers to the school to which the teacher has been assigned and/or from which the teacher receives a paycheck.
  • Para-educators, educational aides and instructional aides are not credentialed teachers.
  • Full-time teachers include, but are not limited to K-6 classroom, PE, Art, Math, Science, Social Studies, Humanities, Drama, Foreign Language, Resource, Title 1, Special Ed, etc.
  • Work with your principal. A list of full-time home-based credentialed teachers at your school may already be available, or may be easily provided by your school office staff.
  • Although part-time teachers or teachers shared with other schools will not be on your list of full-time teachers, their membership per capita can be used to qualify for the award.
  • For example: Sunshine School has 100 teachers, but only 75 of those teachers are full-time credentialed teachers. The other 25 teachers are either part-time or shared with other schools. Sunshine School PTA would have 75 teachers listed on their application form and teacher list. Any of the 100 credentialed teachers at Sunshine School can join, but only 75 of the teachers are required to join to qualify for the "Teachers Matter – Now More than Ever" 100 percent teacher membership challenge.
