Parents for the Arts Network
California State PTA advocates for a high-quality arts education for ALL California students.
We work to make sure the vital voice of parents is heard - loud and clear - in support of the arts. Our network of "Parents for the Arts" raises awareness about the relevance of the arts in increasing academic achievement and building a vibrant, productive society, and provides opportunities to share best practices.
NEW & EXCITING ARTS ADVOCACY TOOLS
California State PTA in partnership with the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) is launching an exciting new activity to promote the importance of arts education with the "Be a Hero for Arts Education" poster designed by artist Nicolás Sánchez and co-developed by PTA and CCSESA.
The backside of the poster includes information about PTA and CCSESA as well as key issues in arts education such as the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAP), Common Core State Standards, and Title 1 funding.
Visit our Be A Hero for Arts Education advocacy resources page for guidance on how to use the poster. To obtain the poster, register to be an Arts Education Chair!

SCHOOL SMARTS - DEVELOPING MORE PARENT LEADERS FOR THE ARTS
In 2009, with the generous support of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, California State PTA piloted School Smarts, a parent-engagement program designed to create parent leaders who will promote a quality and complete education that includes the arts in their schools.
Four years later, this award-winning program has grown to include more than 50 pilot elementary schools.
More than 1,000 parents have graduated from the School Smarts program after attending the seven session, arts-infused academy covering topics that include how their child learns, how the school system works, the benefits of arts education, and the importance of getting involved and advocating for their children.
Shown to the right is the steering committee of Visitacion Valley Elementary School in the San Francisco Unified School District (Second District PTA). The school is the latest to join the School Smarts family.
