Arts Funding in the California State Budget: Update
The Governor’s May Revise budget contains $166 million in ongoing funding for standards aligned arts and music in grades K-12 ($25 per student). The conference committee compromise reduced this to $75 million.

In addition, the Governor’s May Revise budget contains $250 million specifically for one time funding for arts and music equipment and supplies. The conference committee did not retain this as a specific line item but rolled this into a discretionary block grant. While funds may be used for arts and music, there is now no guaranteed funding for arts and music.

The budget is now under review by the leaders of both parties and the Governor.
